Square & Round Piling Options for Permanent Foundations

Round Wood Pilings

Largely due to their abundance and excellent strength and compression properties, round pilings are commonly used in the construction of raised homes, building foundations, bulkheads, highways, railroads, piers and docks, marinas, and other structures that require strong low-cost foundations.

Square Timber Pilings

Square timber pilings are used for every kind of construction from bridges to beach homes, and are often chosen because of their dimensional uniformity, which is valued for both aesthetics and ease of use during design and construction.

Square pilings are commonly used in the foundations of pedestrian, road, and rail bridges, beach home pilings, bulkheads, docks, and piers -- essentially the same projects where round pilings are used but square pilings are often selected over round when aesthetics and/or uniformity are a major factor in the design and purchasing decisions.

Gun Barrel Pilings

The new Gun Barrel Pilings from American Pole & Timber were developed to combine the strengths of round wood pilings with those of square timber pilings.

Gun Barrel Pilings are most commonly used in projects where strength and aesthetics are equally important.

Because of their unique appearance -- fine, straight edges while retaining a “tree-like” natural look -- Gun Barrel Pilings are commonly used as columns in zoos, parks, and other commercial and public projects.

Subject to the limitations below, when used as non-maritime structural foundation pilings, Certified Timbers sold by Building Products Plus, LLC are warranted to the Customer against damage or decay from wood boring insects or fungus that would make the timber structurally unfit for the application for which it was intended for a period of 25 years from the date of this Warranty.

Dock & Pier Materials

Dock Building Materials

Treated Wood is the most preferred material for docks. Choose the right treatment level depending on the kind of water you are building in:

• Fresh water: A minimum of .60 pcf pressure treated wood
• Saltwater: 2.5 pcf pressured treated wood (or higher) is required

SnapJacket® Piling Repair Jacket

Repair your rotted pilings quickly and inexpensively with SnapJacket®. It's the toughest & longest lasting option to preserve, repair, and protect rotted marine pilings. In addition, the design of SnapJacket® makes it very easy to install, keeping timber pilings repair costs to a minimum.

Easy to Install

1. Simply cut the jacket to length, blow out the sand and slip it around the pile without disturbing any of the deck above.
2. Slide the locking device down the middle and your form is ready to fill.
3. Lastly, pour the void with concrete, the concrete will then flow into the voids creating a new solid piling.

Once the jacket is filled with cement, all marine boring organisms that are eating away the inside are instantly killed. From then on the pilings will be protected from any future environmental and organism damage.

Retrofit

By opening up and easily locking back together, using SnapJacket® does not require you to disassemble any portion of the structure built on top of the piles. With proper engineering, SnapJacket® can even restore a completely broken & rotted pilings to beyond its original strength.

25 Year Warranty

Due to the fact that PVC does not wear down in the water, we offer a 25-year warranty on SnapJacket®. The concrete will remain untouched by the elements, effectively fossilizing everything inside of the jacket. Theoretically, this rotted pilings repair jacket should last a lifetime and then some.

Available Up to 16 Inches

Available in 10, 12, 14, and 16-inch diameters, SnapJacket® will fit around most marine piles. It is recommend you choose a piling repair jacket that has at least an inch and a half of annular space all the way around the pile.
